The 2023 SCTP State Trap Championship was a great success, and it could not have been done without all the help from RCGC members. All the work done prior to the match on the grounds was impressive. 31 RCGC members showed up Saturday to lend a hand and it was a great effort.
The singles event registered 62 shooters with lady Sam McInteer from VA winning her shootoff after breaking a 96. Sam also won the handicap event with 53 entries after breaking a 90. RCGC member Gage Malone won the doubles with his best ever 95 and 53 shooters. Sam won the HOA with a 274x300 and a great showing for the VA State Handicap Champ. All in all, a great day and a safe day for the competitors and more than 17,000 targets thrown.
Here is the list of everyone that came out to help and they include Steve Morgan, Debbie & Hunter Galloway, Tommy Brown, Jeff Galloway, Mike Lott, Doug Monjeau, Romeo Piersanti, Mark Spoon, Phil Graham, Frank Hairr, Joel White, Jim Anemone, Ed Gideon, Jim Roland, Sandy Wyatt, Lane Murray, David Jacobsen, James Brown, Scott Shoulars, Jerry Coble, Chris Malone, Jeff Allen, Margaret Johnson, Kevin Biss (drone photography), Randy Averile, Van Fleming, Wendy Robb, Dean McPhail, Bert Schmitz, Clem Ellis and if I forgot anyone I apologize.
Also, a big shout out to Margaret Johnson who is the SCTP State Trap Director and all the time and effort that she put into getting trophies. Not to mention all the activity leading up to the tournament and conducting practices with her team. Not to forget Jeff Allen and his vision for youth shooting in North Carolina and the Carolina Clay family.
Thanks to the board of directors for their support of this event and their commitment to the future of youth shooting sports. The 2023 SCTP State Skeet Championship will be held at RCGC on May 20th and we are looking for a great report from that event also. If you are interested in helping out with the skeet event please contact Mike Hatfield ASAP.
